Invisible elevator, warm bubble, magic air – many ways to describe the force that lifts us up in the air, but it can also be one of the most challenging things to understand in the invisible fluid that is the air. Thermals are the “fuel” for non motorized aircraft such as the paraglider.
The termaling course aims to give a better understanding of thermals and how they can be utilized in the best way – to gain maximum altitude, to stay longest in the air, to fly further.
Our thermaling courses are aimed at the pilots that have finished their Beginners and Intermediate training and want to enroll on our XC Training courses but have not practiced much thermaling. The course is also appropriate for pilots that just want to have a more dedicated practice and better understanding of thermal soaring.
During the time of 3 days you will understand better:
- The formation of thermals – what makes a good thermal good.
- Which places generate better thermals.
- Where do thermals start from – what triggers a thermal
- How does a thermal rise and move trough the air
- What are the types of thermals
- How to enter a thermal and how to stay with it.
Theory needs practice so for 3 days our instructors will aid you trough radio control to search, find and stay with thermals to maximize your air time and improve your technique
To enroll on the Thermal Soaring course you need to be able to judge safe flying conditions, takeoff and land unassisted and perform out-landings on non-designated landing fields. You need to be able to manage in extreme situations such as collapses and frontals and to be able to pilot the glider actively. Para Pro level 3, BHPA CP level or our Intermediate course correspond to these requirements.
Climb higher – fly longer!
